Hello Customer, this mirrors' wires should be connected into your home circuit. It can not be powered by batteries

Q: Is there room behind the mirror to stow the loose cable? One review says not and i dont want to channel the wall out?

Simply answer is No, the length of cable comes out of the back of the unit and there is no recess at all it's just flat, so it leaves you with 3 options, 1st one being buy something else, 2nd cut enough space in the wall in the correct place, ie make your own recess to stow the cable connection, and finally 3rd do what I did if you are feeling confidant, I unscrewed and took it apart, then cut roughly a 70 mm hole in the back, it's very thin and soft Ali material, then screw it back together, sorted.
