German Army Service Watch with Strap.These brand new reproduction German Army Service wristwatches are based on a 1938 model. Service watches were commonly made for the German Army by both Swiss and German watch manufacturers. Often watches were made to order and were stamped on the back with the service member's pay number. These watches were meant to be returned after the individual left military service. These particular watches come in a smart black presentation box complete with watch pillow. Each watch as a black coloured PU leather wrist strap with a traditional silver coloured metal buckle. The straps are held in place with spring bars so the straps can easily be replaced if desired. The watch face in encased in a silver coloured stainless steel watch housing. There are the traditional tool notches around the back of the face as well as the stamping 'Wasserdicht Stahlboden', which translates as 'waterproof steel base'. The black watch face is lined around the edge with large easy to read luminous numbering. The main hour and minute hands are also luminous so can easily be read in low light conditions. Beneath the main hands is a smaller dial with a single hand which is used to record seconds. The watches are all battery powered with a Quartz movement with a small dial on the side to change the time if required.Each watch is the correct weight has a maximum wrist size of 19.5 cm.These reproduction Army Service watches would make a great addition to your impression or to use as an everyday watch.

Looks great but quality control is poor
This watch looks great - the 1930s/40s style with the separate second hand dial is perfect and its resemblance to the wartime examples very strong. The domed crystal is also very pleasing, unlike the squared profile of so many modern watches which causes them to catch on clothing. However, I was disappointed to see the crystal was not seated properly and was raised up at 12 o'clock. This meant it protruded slightly and it was possible there was therefore not a proper watertight seal. It also looked as if that edge would be more easily scratched or even pop out altogether under any pressure. This wasn't easy to see with the naked eye and I only felt it at first. With a magnifying glass I could see what the problem was. I therefore returned the watch immediately for a refund. A replacement wasn't offered but I have ordered another in the hope that it has been properly assembled. The strap looks good but is cheap and very inflexible. You would need to consider replacing it. When my second watch arrives I will be doing just that. If you buy one, look very closely at the crystal and make sure it is seated evenly all the way round.Update: the second watch has arrived and the crystal is seated properly - the difference is quite noticeable. I shall be keeping this one, but it was a pity I had the inconvenience of having to order two. The strap on the new one is as poor as the other, so it will definitely be replaced with a better quality one.
