Pros: They fit well, move well, weren't unbearably hot in 90° direct sunlight, moved well when running and crouching, didn't fold uncomfortably when sitting in various positions in a chair and on the ground (they dug in at the eaist when in a car or chair, but they sit higher on me than they probably would on average.) Thick enough to be durable and hold up well and seem well made in the seams, the surface feels like it would be water-wicking though I haven't gotten to confirm that. The pockets are great, when buttoned there's likely not a chance under the sun that you're losing whatever you store, the pockets on the side are folded over so they open out to hold more. The adjusters on the side hold surprisingly well. The overall quality and look of these is fantastic.Cons: The back pocket is a little small, but I also have a larger smartphone so take that with a grain of salt. The buttons go into button holes on the underside of the pocket flaps, and are a tad difficult to do and undo in a timely manner simply because the fabric is tough. I'm sure with more usage and washing, they'll ease up. (But again, because of how the pockets are made and how they close, you're never losing anything you store so this isn't entirely a con.) When sitting in a chair or the car, the waist dug in a little but I think that's just because they sit a little higher on me than they would on average, so again, grain of salt. Your experience might be different. When the time comes to replace my shorts I will absolutely be buying from this brand again, zero hesitation. 100% recommend.I probably could've gone up a size for a more baggy fit, but they're great either way.

Slightly smaller pockets than previous pair but still good quality.

Overall, great shorts, but front pockets are shallow...
Really nice shorts - true to size and comfortable. The fabric is sturdy and the pattern (for me, Urban Digital) is very cool. The waist adjusters are authentic and work well if you need the shorts a little snugger (as when you're not wearing a belt). My only complaint is that the front slant pockets are a little shallow, so I don't feel as secure putting my wallet or phone in them. On my other BDU/cargo style shorts, the front pockets are much deeper. In the attached photo, you can see the depth of the Rothco (R) against a more typical short (in this case, 5.11). Measured from the bottom of the pocket opening, most BDU/cargo style shorts have a pocket that is about 5-6" deep. The Rothco pockets are only 2.5" deeper than the opening. If the pockets were deeper, these would be 5-start shorts, for sure as I like everything else about them (including the price). The second photo shows the inseam for this size (Large-Regular, 36"-39" waist), which I measure at 9.5"

Very average with some MAJOR FLAWS
I'm an active person. I hike, hunt, workout and cargo shorts are my go to. No, I don't wear that over-priced UnderArmor or Nike garbage in the gym. I own and like some RothCo products and figured I'd give their shorts a try. These cargo shorts aren't horrible, they feel like they'll last a while, but these definitely need some more thought, work and a redesign. I almost gave these 2 stars instead of 3.CONS -1 - Slim fit. Unless you're very skinny, these are going to be snug. A bit too snug. If you likes you some skinny jeans, these will probably make you happy! Not me. They need a bit more room for free movement.2 - The front pockets are all but useless. There's just no room for anything and they're not convenient at all! You'll find unnecessary resistance getting a phone in and out of them, let alone other items. The pocket angle is awkward and too narrow.3 - They're button fly. Personally, on cargo shorts, I don't find this convenient or logical. I'm guessing this was more about cost cutting and price points than functionality. I'd like to see a YKK zipper instead.4 - The pull tabs on the waist are all but useless unless you're so skinny that the shorts are hanging on your hip bones. I'm slim and muscular with a tight waistline. I pull those tabs and set the waist where I want it and it's fine....UNTIL you bend at the waist. The slightest bit of resistance has those tabs slipping back to the fully open position again and my shorts are drooping down!!! I suppose if you are the type of person that sits perfectly still, posing all day, you'll be very satisfied. Forget these stupid tabs and just give us an internal drawstring!!!5(possible con) - The material is thin but not 'cheap' thin. That may or may not be a CON for you. For me it wasn't because I wanted lightweight for the warmer weather. I just wanted you to be aware. If RothCo heeds my advice and redesigns these, they'd have a winner. Also, as far as I can tell, they don't have a HEAVY version for the colder seasons. I'd recommend they consider that as well.

Weird fit
These are the weirdest fitting shorts I have ever bought. Fits the waist fine. I’m a 34, but the legs… each leg can fit both of my legs in them and make my butt look like it belongs in a size 48 waist. I’m a former professional Metal drummer, so no, I do not have skinny legs.

Outstanding shorts.
Great shorts! Great price! When I get another pair, I am going to go one size down than my normal order.
