A.M. Leonard Rigid Plastic Mesh Tree Bark Protector, 48 Inches Tall (Pack of 5)

I've used these tree bark protectors (or deer guards) before in both 36" and 48" lengths, 4" diameter. They work great at protecting the trees, but they are pricey for what you get. They are heavy gauge so that they stand under their own weight and don't collapse. For some trees you do need to use zip-ties to keep the ends of the protectors closed around the trunk.

A local tree farm recommended these as they use a similar product. I had been wrapping young trees with hard plastic coils and lost a nice Sycamore to deer scrapes as I didn’t wrap early enough in the Fall. The new mesh protectors are not only sturdy and easy to install you can leave them in place year round, and not worry about early Buck rubs.

I use this as a totem to grow some long trailing plants upright which results a tall sturdy support. I 'sew' the opening together and I attach the plant tendrils with black yarn. I've also used it to create tall moss poles, using a mesh material and some Sphagnum moss as a filler. I use my tree pruning tool to cut it. While it is rigid, it is still pliable enough to open a little wider or close a little tighter. It's the perfect solution for me.

We have a couple new young trees that had been suffering bark damage from the attention of the local deer population.These protectors are tall enough to cover the entire affected trunk area, and don't interfere with the trunk itself so that there is plenty of airflow and nowhere for nasty bugs to hide, nest and do other damage.The units are roughly a half oval, and we used 2 per tree to create a full loose circle around both trees. The trees are healing nicely, and there's been no new damage to either the trees or the devices themselves.

I live in an area where the deer are fed regularly by a few of my neighbors. As a result, they hang around and browse everyone's gardening and cause a lot of stress. I bought these protectors to keep my saplings from becoming twigs, and they're working wonderfully. I have more trees to plant next month, and another pack of these are in my cart already.

Fantastic product. We used then to wrap trees that the goats and horses were chewing. It did the job well and was pretty easy to install. Also super easy to piece together to cover weird shaped trees and branches. I would suggest also ordering a good supply of zip ties!

This is a great product. It’s allowing our young tree to heal after being damaged by deer last fall. We tried wrapping it, but the deer wore through it very quickly. We wrapped it in the plastic and that prevented more deer damage but it was holding moisture in, and we were worried about bacterial or fungal infection. This product is far more attractive than the plastic wrap and the trunk is able to dry appropriately. My only suggestion is that the manufacturer include twist ties. Also, i needed only one “cage” but only had the option to purchase five.

These are sturdy and well-made; however, even if you are wrapping a young tree that is only 2 or 3 inches in diameter, you will need two to do the job. Consider a pack of 5 to be adequate to wrap two and a half trees. With that in mind, selling these in an even number would make more sense.
