The Universal Tunic Period Patterns number 16, Tunics, c. 650-1310 A.D., has 14 tunics for men, woman and children, with most parts being interchangeable. Chest sizes 16-54" included. These go particularly well with Period Patterns 90, 92, 93, 101 and 102.Tunics were perhaps the first style to spread throughout Europe, worn from Ireland to Russia, Scandinavia to Byzantium to Spain. They were worn by almost everyone, peasant to noble, from Roman times through the 1300's. Many of the same variations are seen again and again, although a few appear to be limited to one sex or the other and woman's tunics or undertunics were always long. Class differences were shown by the fabric and decoration as well as the cut of the tunic. A nobleman at court might wear a long, full tunic of silk with jeweled embroidery, while working in the field, his poorest peasant would wear a short tunic of coarse wool . Men would usually wear hose (Period Patterns no. 43 or 101) with their tunics, but women didn't.In the first half of the 14th century the discovery that one could cut the armholes and sleeve caps curved, thus achieving a better fit, caused some change in the basic style. With this change the tunic continued to be worn, in a more or less modified form for another 200 years, especially among the lower classes. One version of the tunic evolved into the cotehardie (Period Patterns #21 & 23).Zelikovitz Leathers is an Official Distributor of Mediaeval Miscellanea Period Patterns and stocks the full line of available patterns.Mediaeval Miscellanea has created copyrighted Period Patterns for sewing authentic period clothing. very complete pattern and it arrived quickly
In addition to multiple sizes from child to XXL adult, there were three sheets with ideas for decoration and pictures and descriptions of costumes in context.

Overlapping Pattern pieces aside, a good buy
On a hanger, this looks kinda 'meh,' but in linen and on a person it's a really solid pattern. If you have any sewing experience at all, this should be fairly simple.I bought this to make four tunics in three sizes. The ridiculous number of versions of this pattern made cutting it out really confusing (especially to match marks). You have to trace the sheets if you are cutting two different views. That said, once cut, it only takes about an hour to sew together the base and if you machine sewed the rolled inside hems it wouldn't take much longer.Picture is of View II tunic waiting to be embroidered and hemmed.

Not impressed
I understand that it took the pattern designer a lot of work and I think the historical information is great. I think it’s amazing that you can do anything from child to adult from these patterns. I tried view 7 in a medium. If I decide to try more views, I will update my review:The necklines do not line up. I didn’t realize until after I cut the linen so I had to match the wide front to the back and therefore the neckline is now wrong period. And of course the neckline facings are wrong and do not match.Medium means XXL as far as I can tell. I think I look better in a potato sack. I literally have to take out 4” front AND back.In addition, there are no sewing directions. These patterns are not for:Beginner sewersThose without pattern experiencePeople who get frustrated easilyI kinda think medieval patterns are easier without the pattern now that I’ve tried this pattern.

Very unhappy
The pattern sheet are extremely confusing. with multiple sizes and styles on the same sheet. Unless you have ALOT of patience and tracing success forget making any more than 1 of the styles provided. For the price you should have had each style on its own sheet. Will not buy from this manufacturer again.

very poor instructions
One of the worst instruction sheets I have ever encountered. I do a lot of costuming and some quite complicated...this is absurd.
