The beach we own and dig clams on is part of a a bay named “Rocky Bay”. It is aptly named.We dig a lot of natural clams, in fact, we were licensed to harvest commercially and used the traditional 4 & 5 time “rakes” to dig up the clams (Manila & Littlenecks).I was apprehensive on how well these “little” rakes would do given how rocky our beach is and how light weight the times are compared to the traditional rake.Very surprisingly, this rake worked fabulously well. It is really sturdy and the light weight makes it easier to use. Actually, I noticed much less tired at the end of the dig Vs using the regular rake.I did have to change my method of digging to where I would dig down in essentially two layers at the same spot Vs pushing the tines of the traditional rake all the way down then lifting the handle and turning up a large clump of ground.Usually I end up getting an average of between 40 to 80 pounds of clams during a dig (I’m not very fast). Surprisingly, I done see any decrease the amount of clams I get compared to the traditional rake.So far this small rake is standing up well but time will tell.Given the price of this rake, the ease of use and it’s light weight. It worth trying it out and make up your own mind. As for me, I’m sold on its use.

The tool is very sturdy and will be very helpful gardening.

Really like this tool -- very strong, rips through pretty much any kind of soil, pulls weeds with gusto. Rating lowered because the handle is a bit skinny and hard to hold -- would slip through my fingers when I yanked. I glued and screwed on a thicker knob at end of the handle and now it works like a charm.

Expected higher quality. Poor welds. Would cost 100 yen at a store in Japan.

I use this for weeding gardens all the time and absolutely love it!!! I know it is a clam digger, but it works in the garden so well!
