Weave Got Maille Box Weave Chain Maille Bracelet Kit, Helen of Troy

I have been making chain mailie for several years in my jewelry making hobby. I have taken live classes in the method. I would not classify this project as a beginner project as the designation on the box states. To me, this is more of an intermediate project as it uses multiple colors of jump rings and you have to manipulate the jump rings in a complicated manner. While I suspect that the creators of this project, who are very experienced, would say this is a beginner project, from my perspective (not an expert) it is somewhat difficult. I would hate for someone to try to make this as their first project and become discouraged regarding this beautiful art.

The instructions for this project aren't too difficult to follow but the jump rings bend out of shape very easily and the colored coating on the copper rings mars easily and flakes off, I don't know about anyone else but when I first learn how to do something there is a certain amount of trial and error but these rings are not forgiving. I bought several pliers trying to complete this bracelet thinking if I had a different type they would work better, plastic pliers are $60 a set or $20 each, seeing how this was a first project I decided to try some of the types of pliers that are sold on the Weave got Maille site, but they too mar the finish and at this point, I wouldn't try it again. I know the grip you hold the rings with can cause damage but you have to hold them fairly firm to open and close them. EDIT : after 4 days of wearing bracket coating has rubbed off more and the flimsy clasp bent out of shape the first time it met any resistance

Tapping a,b,c,d links in order on paper will help keep track instructions are not in the colour of the kit. Fire mountian has a great tutorial using shower curtain rings to get you started right the first time.

Although Box Weave isn't my favorite weave, the colors of Cleopatra are stunning once assembled. Same high quality kit as from Weave Got Maille direct, only this kit through Amazon was less than half the price direct from WGM. I'll definitely order other kits in the future.

Love the weave and the colors. The directions were well written, but I read what I wanted to see and not what it actually said. Contacted Weave Got Maille customer service and they were amazing. Got me on the right track immediately. Love these kits for getting started with chain maille- they have everything you need (except pliers) and the results are stunning.

The jump rings were very good quality, and the instructions were easy to follow. Not a difficult weave (a lot like Byzantine), but looks great when finished! Very happy with my purchase, and would buy from them again!

Came with a little mat to put my project on, which was super helpful.The directions are really clear, the jump rings are really easy to work with--I did this project in one night. It came with enough jump rings to make an extra large bracelet (an anklet on some people).Definitely will buy more projects from this company.

This was a great project. I want to start making chainmail and scalemail, as my first practice this kit was really fun. A bit confusing at first, but once you get the hang of the pattern, very easy.
