Bachmann Trains E-Z TRACK CROSSING GATE - HO Scale Medium

This item is meant to be apart of your train display, not a toy for kids. In reading the other reviews, most of the bad reviews were because this fact was not understood. I love this crossing! It fit perfectly with the EZ tracks, the gates both go all the way down when the train crosses through. Because this is a mechanical setup (not electrical), the gates don't go down until the train is in the roadway, but this does not bother me. My track is black with steel alloy rail, whereas this item is nickel rail. My train doesn't get as good of power over the nickel rail as it does over the steel, but it makes it through the crossing. Also note that you must be using an HO scale engine to make it through this gate crossing because there is a plastic plate down the middle of the track that the train goes over (this plate is what closes the gates). If your train is too light (like the thomas sets) it will get stuck. Something I didn't think of when i bought this also related to this plastic plate. I knew buying this that it wasn't a toy, but i thought my son would have fun having his hot wheels cross over the track using this gate crossing. Well, when you "drive" your hot wheel over the track, it pushes down on the plate and closes the gates! hahaha I should have known better, but now my son has fun launching the cars through the crossing before the gates can go down :). Overall we love this gate crossing, but it's not perfect.

This is a very cool crossing! It works great, looks great, and is great. One this that I don't really like about it is that it has a huge dead spot on it. I think the reason to this dead spot is the design because I would clean this all the time with my track cleaner, but nothing was working. But apart from that, great crossing! Five Stars!

It is great

For the money, and for our layout it works. Would liked to have spent a little more for lighted warning lights, but couldn't. It lacks realism, approach ramps do not fit well, component with signs and lights had to finally be glued to their base, kept falling off. Gate activation is very touchy, but with a little trimming and shimming it works now. May upgrade in future, works for now.

This is the favorite part of my grandson's train set. Moving parts are very delicate though. Bought this item to go with the Bachmann Santa Fe HO train with E-Z tract. Only wish someone would have told me that I needed to purchase two straight pieces of E-Z track to attach to the set. My grandson couldn't use it until I bought those pieces. According to a 7 year old, "It's the best part of the track!" Thumbs up!
