So glad I found this!
so, after using an open-faced whicker basket to store our bread in (for quite some time), I finally decided I was tired of how cluttered it looked and that it was time for an actual bread box. Little did I know how frustrating trying to find the right one would be.Pretty much every bread box sold in stores is blonde wood, which is fine...if you have blonde wood cabinets or don't hate the look of blonde wood (like I do). We have expresso cabinets, so a blonde wood bread box would clash horribly. So, buying one in a regular store proved fruitless. Then there was the "fun" of trying to buy a bread box here on Amazon. Omg, talk about frustrating! Almost all of them are made of bamboo, which is honestly absolute crap, unless you're planning to varnish the heck out of it with polyurethane. Otherwise, bamboo scratches super easily and falls apart after any sort of wear and tear.We tried two different models, purchased here on Amazon. Both scratched up just during the building process and both were missing pieces! It was rage-inducing! Then, after two returns/refunds, I did a search deep dive and found this. Thank god!Unlike most of the bread boxes on Amazon, this one is made of actual wood, not bamboo. It's also very roomy inside, which is far better than a lot of the others that could only store about three loaves. The downsides:*It's unfinished, you have to stain it yourself.*The craftsmanship is not at all what you expect from an Amish-made product. The back was rough and splintered (needed to be sanded) and the wood on the right hand side of the inside shelf was splintered, where the shelf met the back of the box. However, even with flaws, this box was waaaaaaaay better than any of the other ones I came across. We stained ours to match our cabinets and it looks beautiful. It stores a lot of bread too. We currently have four loaves in it and it still has room for more. It's not perfect, but over all, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

bread box craftmanship was deplorable
There was nothing to like. As soon as I pulled it out of box, I could see nails not countersunk. Lid had big black stamp , that lumber company's use for their inventory. Lid had been sawed right though a large knot. Light finishing or sanding could't help lid to round out edges, some had been chewed up badly, beyond saving. Uneven sides.

Love it
I stained it & I love it. Hubby & I eat different breads & one was always left out being an eyesore so I wanted a bread box that had a shelf to hold both. As you can see it holds even more. Well made. Very nice. Thank you.

Good quality and workmanship
More than met my expectations. Bonus in the shelf so no wasted space. Priced perfectly and love the real wood smell. Definitely recommend this product and delivered on time.

Unbelievably awful
I’ve bought a lot of things from the Amish and this looked like a Boy Scout did it. It was busted up,splintery, And the door did not even latch the nicest part of it was the punched tin. I was so excited to get it and cannot express how disappointed I was I will have my aunt by one in Michigan from the Amish and ship it to me.

A beautiful, stainable, or paintable bread box.
It is large and holds a lot of bakery products. It cleans up the counter and looks beautiful. I painted a special finish and everyone loves it.
