Great songs and a sanity saver.
My two year old son loves this. We started watching them as shorts on Baby first TV. He loved them so much we soon started watching them on You tube. They calm him down when he is upset. So when we have no internet or TV nearby I wanted to have them on my smart phone , for those away from home emergencies. He goes through stages where he doesn't want to lie still for diaper changes or take naps. The video works great at getting him to relax and it has saved many a diaper change and nap time. Recently he decided he hates baths with a passion. We started to dread baths he was getting so combative about it. I put the video on placed it a safe distance from the tub where he could still see it. And viola! he is back to sitting peacefully playing with the rubber ducky like it's his favorite time of day. This video has a magically property I do not fully understand but I am very happy to sing it's praises.

Childhood nostalgia
My parents would pop this in the VCR for my sister and I when we were children. Grew up knowing all of our nursery rhymes from just this one video. At school, every kid would recite "Jack and Jill," but they only knew the first stanza. They always looked at me funny when I sang the next two stanzas. And if that isn't weird enough, I can only sing these songs with a terrible imitation of a British accent. I can't sing them with my own American accent lol! Now my sister is getting ready to have her first kid, and it's been a thrill to find this on dvd! I can't wait to give it to her and listen to all of the songs and rhymes once more. So here's to childhood nostalgia!

awful
I simply cannot understand why anyone would recommend this. I want low key and chill for my two year old. We don't let him watch tv or most things other people let their kids watch. But I wanted an animation of classic nursery rhymes instead of awful ones on youtube that my Mom showed my son. But this is just awful. Blurry as well as looking ridiculous! This is awful.

They loved it. It shows groups of British school children ...
This is a very old program that my 35 year old children watched when they were children. They loved it. It shows groups of British school children dancing and acting out nursery rhymes. It made my children the ones with the largest store of memorized nursery rhymes in the neighborhood! I just bought a copy for my year old twin granddaughters, and they love it as well. It is well suited for young children because it is all singing and rhymes. You don't have to understand the words to enjoy dancing around to this DVD. Yes, it is old and the production values are old, but this is a charming DVD for children up to 4 or 5 years old.

It was not what was my conception of nursery rhymes
Very little color and the animation was very poor, it did not even keep my attention. Very boring. Of course my grandchild was not impressed at all.

Clever and creative
We (the kids and myself!) used to borrow this on VHS from the library years ago and really enjoyed it. This DVD version is better quality than the VHS we used to watch. It's a clever and creative presentation of traditional nursery rhymes using pop-up books, live actors (mostly children!), marionettes, props, dancing, a variety of singing and instruments, and even a variety of emotions according to the rhymes. It keeps moving and changing and holds your interest even though it's low-tech. A few of the rhymes are a bit wild by today's standards, but so are some fairy tales, yet we think they're thought-provoking, interesting, and worthwhile.

The sound and the video is awful but there is a good selection of songs
I bought this video because my son loves nursery rhymes!I should have just got a dvd.The "animation" here uses puppets and some recordings with children… but is terrible. The sound is also very bad, in some cases it sounds like those singing were far from the microphones while the clapping was really close by.

ridiculous at first, beautiful at last
was so confused to choose which nurs. rhyme dvd to buy for my 18 months son n finally chosed this because of all the 5 star reviews i read here.1st impression...the dvd is super annoying....the video is poor and far from interesting, the children choir sometimes irritating...and my boy didnt interested at all to watch this. after a week or two i decided to give it another shot and my boy agreed to watch this for 10-15 minutes then he left.so, in a point of view of an 18 months, this dvd is not interesting, in my point of view this dvd is annoying and i regret to buy it...but in my husband's opinion this dvd is okay because it isn't aggressive (ofcourse it isnt,,,it's ridiculously dull!), and it contains lots of songs...it has almost every nursery rhymes i know...so it is super complete...though many songs are sung only for 10 seconds but it'sfine.. Update:my boy is now 2yr old n that means we've owned this dvd for 6 months, and i have to say that this dvd is a saint!! When i first bought this, i thought it was extremely awful, annoying, and boring...just like i wrote before. But after few months listening n watching this dvd, i changed my mind completely...i found the songs are nice, the choir is beautiful, the kids are gorgeous, the marionettes are cute and the pop up book is a quite good idea.it turned up being the only dvd my son watches from the begining till the end. He watches Barney for about 15 min, Sesame Street for 10 min, and Dora the Explorer and Thomas for less than 5 min...I recommend this for those who seek classic traditional nurs rhyme.PS: Im a young mom (20-sth) and unlike some other people here, I have no nostalgia or whatsoever bout this dvd. i just like it..

Still the best
Our sons loved this on VHS and our grandson loves it in dvd. The old version of CGI - cardboard generated images - trumps computer graphics every time. Great musicians including Martin Carthy make this a joy. Forget cocomelon and get a feast of traditional children's entertainment

Perfect for getting the new generation into something great from the last generation!
We watched these nursery rhymes endlessly as children on a VHS tape and loved the fact that every rhyme was presented differently - they're usually sung as songs, some with live actors, some with storybook drawings, one with playing cards and even one as a moving box!Nursery rhymes as a whole are changing and this is a good way to introduce children to basic rhyme and meter, as well as song and traditional lyrics. I bought this as a gift for my 1 year old nephew and he particularly likes 'Over the Hill and Far Away.' My favourite as a child was 'Aiken Drum' for its catchy rhythm. When I saw this on Caddicarus' Youtube channel it reminded me how much I used to love this as a child and I bought two copies - one for myself (for nostalgia and possibly for my own kids one day) and one for my infant nephew, who loves music. Haven't regretted it at all! Just like the old VHS tape, but clearer, crisper and far easier to get playing!

A memorable nursery rhymes collection albeit the fire change and editing flaws
I very fondly remember watching this collection of nursery rhymes on VHS when I was a child. Whilst browsing Amazon one day I came across this DVD and thought the cover looked familiar. Upon reading the description, I soon found out why. It was exactly the same collection from my childhood albeit on DVD. Prior to purchasing the DVD, I watched it on LoveFilm Instant twice to jog my memory and it was as good as I remembered although the real fire during 'London's Burning' had been replaced with cut-out animated fire and I noticed some minor editing flaws such as a choppy transition between two shots of 'Jack and Jill' for instance. When I purchased this DVD, I noticed another change: the Ocean Music logo was placed at the end of the closing credits. In spite of this, I watched this with my mother over Christmas and she enjoyed re-visiting it just as much as I did. The best aspects are the authentically produced and impeccably performed songs (the best performers being Floella Benjamin from 'Playskool' in the 1980s, Isla St. Clair, Martin Carthy and the children), the pop-up book concept, the marionettes and the animation. Although the collection is mostly old-fashioned due to the costumes and traditional illustrations but in a good way, I liked the modern twist in 'Aiken Drum' with his hair being made of spaghetti. Some of the girls were heavily made-up, especially the one singing the verses of 'Oh Dear, What can the Matter Be,' although I didn't see this as controversial an issue as 'Minipops,' a programme where children impersonated popular bands and singers that aired a year after the original video of this collection was released.Overall, this is a more than worthy re-release of the original VHS version and I'd recommend it to anyone who remembers it from their own childhood as well as children of their own if they have any. 4/5.

I noticed something has changed
Me and my sisters use to watch this when we we're kids over and over again so when we first put this on all our childhood memorys come flashing back it was lovely had loads of happy memories, bought this for our 3 year olds to watch and to be as honest as I can this is the best thing wev ever bought them, they both love it and join in with some of the dances my little girl is singing the words, my sisters boy has autism so doesn't realy pay much attention to films but he's smiling and dancing when it comes on he's even started making eye contact with us wich is a really big thing, but we did notice that "londons burning" when we we're kids there was a real fire the cards we're burning obviously thay have changed it to animated fire but that's ok we're not upset about it, it was obviously done for a reason, would recomend this to anyone with young children, thankyou for putting this onto dvd
