Huey: The Story of an Assault Helicopter Pilot in Vietnam

This is a rare read from authors who more than know what they are talking about. Be warned, once you start reading this book you will not want to stop. This is one of the few books that I will be reading again and again and again. This book follows the adventures of a helicopter pilot through a bloody and dangerous time. This is compelling reading, although reading is probably the wrong word because it's more as if you are drawn through this book as an observer. It should come as no surprise that I highly recommend this book.

Great book thoroughly enjoyed the detailed explanations of the combat assaults. Got a bit deep towards the end with the Buddism stuff but still a great read and would recommend it to any "Huey Heads"

Read this book in a day could not put it down. fantastic read very descriptive how a person copes with and comes back from these experiences I will never know. I would love to shake the man's hand.

Would recommend this book to any one interested in the huey

Aviation is one of my main interests. So it was obvious to grab this book.It taught me things that I never knew about this sort of war.

As far as the flying goes its up there with Chickenhawk and that's a serious benchmark in my estimation. Finding salvation in prayer etc however all a bit tiresome

Enjoyed reading this book and the experiences that were had during his time in theater. The book was well written and easy to immerse yourself into.

Really enjoyed this diary style book. Enough action whilst also keeping the horror of the war and the daily struggle in Vietnam at the forefront!

Story ok, but reads a bit like a Boys Own adventure. A little bit unbelievable, considering the time span involved.

I read this book when it was first printed, and had a signed copy. Dave Groen was a great pilot. I didn't fly with him when I was in Vietnam, but did fly him when he worked heli portable seismic exploration.
