Nice first in series
Always a sucker for dogs and horses and here there are both. Family hardships and unsolved murders are intriguing as well. Looking forward to next in series. (Also a soft spot for ponies).

Nice easy read
First many people have said you couldn't guess who the culprit was but I thought it was obvious very early on. The writing is good in style and grammar but the heroine needed to not suspect her love interest at every turn. She knew all the good things he had done for her and of course as he is introduced as her possible-about-to-be-lover that it wouldn't be him anyway. A little of it put some good tension in the story but it was too much. I loved the dog and horse parts and that made the story very enjoyable. I would read the next one if it goes on sale but fixed income does not allow me to pay full price. Might have to check out the library! You will enjoy this story and most likely the series. I would like to see how she works with their relationship in future stories.

Not so good
The main character is obsessed and juvenile. The hero is at least a decade older. Nikki goes from one wild surmise to the other in her theories, not one of which has any basis in fact. As for the dog? Maybe the most intelligent and consistent character, but use of cattle prods? Never heard of any trainer doing that. Could have been a good, challenging story..... But the challenge was just to finish it

Good Reading
I loved how you never quite knew who did it. You would have it in your mind that this one did it and then it would point to someone else. I enjoyed reading it.

A well written book
The story was well written and left you guessing until the end. The storyline of Nikki and Justine was well played and it too had it's twists and turns. The story ran along briskly and smoothly and the ending a surprise. The passion was tastefully done.

Good book - fast, easy read
Overall, I enjoyed this book. The main character could be a little frustrating at times, but it seems understandable given what she has gone through. Fast and quick to read. Good book if you like horses and dogs especially.

Dogs are the best
This was a very good book. I had no idea who the bad guy was until far into the book. It also involved a horse and a dog. What could be better.

Ridiculous heroine!
I'm a fan of Bev Pettersen in the normal run of her books, but I couldn't be bothered to finish this one. The 'heroine'is unbelievably stupid, supposedly a trained investigator but dashing off half-cocked at a second's notice to do this & that with a police investigation. The villain was obvious from the moment he appeared & the police detective let the heroine in on all the action! Not one to recommend.

Might have to buy this.
I read this using KU, and although this was a little predictable that didn’t matter as I really enjoyed the story and the characters. A search and rescue for a missing teen has stirred up the past for Nikki and Justin. The way these two have to deal with the cold case puts Nikki in danger, but Gunner has her back and I thought he was adorable.3.5 stars ⭐️
