A good collection of commanders aircraft and their unique paint schemes
A good collection of commanders aircraft and their unique paint schemes. I particularly liked the 1920s and 1930s vintage aircraft included.

Two Stars
Disappointing. Less than half the book is actually "Blue Goose" aircraft. Many of the photos have been published elsewhere.

A fascinating look at a little known niche of Naval Aviation
Like many Naval Aviation aficionados, I have seen numerous photos of Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard command aircraft in various reference books but have never fully understood their history and significance. When I received my copy of “BLUE GOOSE” and began casually leafing through the pages, I was so drawn-in by the crystal clear images and descriptive captions that I couldn’t put it down. The book, which is subdivided into chronological eras, provides the reader with both a pictorial and narrative history of every type of aircraft utilized is this role in the first 50 years of Naval Aviation, ranging all the way from single seat combat aircraft flown by group and squadron commanders to the large multi-engine transports and flying boats which were used to carry important government officials, admirals and generals.Included with the operational aircraft used in the command role are several foreign types flown by the naval air attachés serving with various foreign embassies, plus many one-of-kind aircraft that had either been procured off-the-shelf or diverted to command duties after originally being tested for other purposes. In addition to the huge array of different kinds of aircraft, many of the photos feature well-known figures of Naval Aviation history who either flew or rode as passengers in these planes. As an added bonus, book contains five pages of color profiles drawn by Serbian artist Bradié Sre'ko.BLUE GOOSE is a welcome addition to my book collection and is highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn something new about Naval Aviation. It’s a fun read.

Atypical product from Mr. Ginter
This was a local purchase to patronize a brick and mortar hobby shop. I can understand the criticisms of this volume. This is the first Ginter produced product I have purchased that did not address a single aircraft. So, I'm wondering what the other, similar multi-subject volumes look like. The volume attempts to cover a exceedingly broad scope of aircraft and is very liberal with the definition of "Command Aircraft". In my mind, that means aircraft assigned to FOGO, not CAG, Attache, etc. In other words, no star,no inclusion. The biggest problem appears to be one of subject and title. A Blue Goose was technically a VIP transport, not an aircraft assigned to a commander like a CAG or MAG commander. The inclusion of pictures and information not related to VIP aircraft does confuse and muddy the readability of the volume as other reviewers have suggested.Having said all that, the color profiles, which are very unusual for this publisher are absolutely gorgeous.

Rare photos of one-of-a-kind Naval Aircraft
Received "Blue Goose" Command Aircraft and was highly impressed by the wide variety of photographs and the amazing number of types that served high ranking officers of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. One would think that 70 years after the end of World War II that every aircraft photographed during the war and the years prior would have been seen by now, but this book proved me wrong. In addition to the wide variety of aircraft, the photo reproduction is superb. Author William Riley passed away before the book was in print and co-author Tom Doll did an excellent job picking up the pieces, researching and assembling this worthy addition to the literature on Naval Aviation history.Nicholas A.
