A great read for anyone!
I am not particularly interested in pirates or history, but this book was captivating in the way it brought to life the historically accurate adventures of Stede Bonnet. The author does a great job taking the reader back to the 1700's with general information about the time period, while telling the interesting and true story about a lesser known pirate, gathered from hundreds of historical documents. Despite the painstaking research that must have gone into it, this book doesn't read like an academic or research document, instead its really enjoyable and feels more like an adventure novel. I couldn't put it down and finished in 2 days.

Very enjoyable book!
I took a sight seeing cruise in South Carolina where that introduced me to the gentleman pirate. The story was intriguing enough that I wanted to know more. This told me everything I wanted to know and more. Very enjoyable pirate book.

Great Book. Disappointing Shipping
I really love the book itself. Great writing and such an interesting topic but it was really damaged in shipping. The corner is almost falling off

Well Researched and Detailed Telling.
Most of us that regularly read about Piracy in the golden age will very well know Stede Bonnet because his story sticks out so much from the rest, however we don’t usually get a deep dive. This book was done well. Jeremy put together a great order of historical knowledge to put Bonnets life in perspective of understanding, giving details not normally told. You get the background as far as possible starting with Barbados itself then working in Bonnets family, all the way to his death. Every detail in between is done well and put together in an understandable way.My only note that some might not enjoy depending on who you are. There are a lot of direct imports of documents of the day, language from the 18th century, for example the judge in Bonnets case has a rant 4+ pages long and while I enjoy reading it exactly as he said it, I know some may not and want to skip those parts. It’s all relevant and worth it though.

Very dry
My partner bought me this book after we watched Our Flag Means Death. I was really looking forward to it, but it is very dry. The author essentially compiles historical documentation about Stede Bonnet into one place and it reads like an academic paper. There are also whole chapters that are just direct transcripts of the trials of Stede Bonnet and his crew. Pick this book up if you're into that, but skip it otherwise. Personally, I found it to be a slog and a bore.
