A4 size: 8 1⁄4 × 11 17⁄24, which means just slightly wider and longer than 8.5" x 11" normal American size paper. Should fit with no probems.

Q: will it stand up or fall over if i put it on the desk?

It depends. With a small number of sheets, the base is narrow and it falls over. With enough sheets inside, or if you force apart the accordion folds at the base, it will stand up.
