Don’t hesitate to buy this book!
This book is everything I wanted it to be. Alanna’s depth of knowledge on color as it relates to fiber through a finished object is fantastic. If you are looking to take your spinning or dyeing to the next level and become more technical in achieving the results you desire then this is a must have book for your library.

A learned approach to spinning colors
As a beginner spinner just beginning to play with color, I appreciated the clear explanations of how spinning color sequences in single, double and more plies affect the outcome in the end resulting yarns. Her use of the same basic beginning colors and sequence helped me understand the techniques she was explaining. I dye my own yarns, and am learning to paint my tops. I never even thought to sequence specific co!ors on the roving, then split the top and reverse the color sequence to obtain specific color effects. My technique was to simply place the top in a flattish dye pot and apply different dye color to different areas of the top, hoping for a harmonious result. This book has given me a better understanding of how to obtain the results I envision.

Wow!! beautiful and helpful book!
I first got this one on the Kindle for free and loved it so much I wanted it in paper as well. She has lots and lots of examples, which is tremendously helpful!! She has given pros / cons and/or things to consider on all techniques presented. She gives not only spun yarn examples, but how the sample looks knitted up. For someone wishing to master color in their spinning, this is one of a few great books to study!!

Very thorough treatise on using handpainted tops/roving
Very organized and thorough review of using dyed top/roving to plan color in final yarns. Very happy with the book and it was worth the purchase. Can't wait to try some of the techniques.

THE book for hand spinners who are also hand-dyed fiber addicts
This book opens up a vast world of possibilities for what kinds of yarn can be spun from those beautiful hand-dyed fiber braids us hand spinners are so smitten with. Alanna Wilcox is a scientist- she’s done all of the experiments and documentation that would never have even occurred to most of us, with the result of unleashing a million new ways to play.
