Best tasting home brewed coffee
After considerable research I decided to purchase a Moccamaster. The coffee machine I replaced was a conventional drip maker that was inconsistent in taste and I was looking for something that provides a quality cup of coffee. I knew exactly what to expect when it arrived and wasn’t surprised by the plastic parts or anything associated with the build. A major plus for me is the longevity of the company and replacement parts which are readily available if necessary. It’s simple to clean and has a cool retro look. I like the fact that it’s no frills, I don’t need another device that connects via blue tooth or requires an app. Low tech is better in this instance. Now the most important part that in my opinion is necessary for a quality cup of coffee. It’s a tremendous difference when you grind your own beans. I was purchasing ground coffee from a specialty shop and it wasn’t working in the Moccamaster. The coffee was coming out too weak, didn’t have a smooth taste and the flavors were muted. Grinding the beans solves the issue and you get the full flavor of the bean. What works for me when brewing is starting the unit without the carafe and allowing water to drip just over the top of the grounds. I then pause the brew cycle by turning off the machine. I let the coffee bloom for 60 seconds lightly stir the grounds , replace the carafe and finish the brew cycle, Once brewed I then allow an additional 4 minutes of rest. The finished cup of coffee is the perfect temperature and there is no hint of bitterness or sour notes. It’s a great addition to the morning with a quality cup of coffee.Update:I was experiencing some unexpected inconsistencies with my coffee. I went back to the beginning and eliminated all possibilities related to what could be happening. As it turned out it was my old coffee mugs. The ceramic mug had degraded and cleaning was not possible. The stainless mugs were stained. Both scenarios when adding very hot coffee released an unpleasant taste. I completely cleaned the stainless mugs and purchased a new ceramic mug. Do yourself a favor and if you have old mugs get some new ones and if you have stainless mugs clean them. I found a tip that works. Drop a dishwasher detergent tablet in the mug and add boiling water. The results are quite incredible.

5-year warranty, Dutch design, Half-off was irresistible for this legend.
This is the second MoccaMaster I've owned. Simple to use, dependable, pretty speedy brewing (and a bubble show as it goes!) and has a well-deserved reputation for quality.I Wanted one with a heater unit and glass carafe--first had the stainless carafe, and I think I like the heated version better, though the stainless carafe works. Stainless version has a smaller footprint. My daughter bought my old one from me. Both are the same drip unit. Drip mechanism spreads water the diameter of the grounds. One version had a cool valve by which you could stop the dripping into the carafe entirely or by half-flow. That feature made for stronger coffee, the other doesn't have it. Might be something to look for.Have been very satisfied with the quality of coffee this produces. The drip unit puts the fresher coffee into the carafe down deep to mix it better, and it does make a difference. These have 5-year warranties, and I have friends who haven't had a problem in that time. The mechanism's simple and very dependable. Haven't paid full price for either yet, and this year's prime day only had off-white at half price, but at least it wasn't purple. Discounts on the other colors were still a higher price than you might find elsewhere, so look

Lives up to its billing
After using the Moccamaster KBGV for over a week now I would say it makes excellent drip coffee - rich, flavorful and smooth. It took a few days of experimenting to get the grind just right for making a half-pot to my taste so it's clear to me that the grind really is critical. The machine is very easy to set up and use and I think what might be most impressive is how quickly it heats the water and brews the coffee. My half-pot takes just 3 minutes - that is 3-4x faster than heating the water on my stove and either making a pour over (which is always hit and miss) or using a French press. The only question is how well it will perform and hold up over time...given the long warranty, I feel pretty confident it will pass that test too...
