Highly recommended for an attic or out of the way installation
Have only tested the product in place at this point. It is located in my attic using an insulated duct that also has another layer of insulation around it. When on full, as I tested it, yes you could hear the flow of air as it moves a lot of air. However, it is not what I expected reading some of the other reviews. Once I have my speed adjustment working, I will not need to use the full volume. Bottom line, much quieter then expected. Do not suggest using this in an open space or the noise might be an issue, but for an enclosed area......does the trick. Highly recommended for an attic or out of the way installation.

Great Fan!
I bought this fan to exhaust heat generated by 3 10hp pump motors in an underground vault. I really like the hard plastic construction of the fan housing, as the location is in SW Florida in a high humidity environment. I also like the sealed bearing brushless motor! The fan moves a lot of air very quietly and vibration free. I also like the mounting bracket, as it is easy to install and gives a sealed fit when coupled up to my 8" PVC vent exhaust pipe. I highly recommend this fan!

Noise and poor low speed control (which might have more to do ...
This fan was placed in a room to help air circulate through our first and second floor. Very loud because there are only screens in the walls for intake and output. If was able to be placed in a non used room or deep in the attic with very long insulated ducting it would not be so loud. At low speeds it is not clear if it moves any air but at high speed it moves ALOT of air. Noise and poor low speed control (which might have more to do with our controller) makes me rate this a 4 star

Warranty work has to be done in Canada, you pay shipping
Great product but understand that if you have a problem you have to ship the entire fan to Canada on your dime. Then they'll assess it and get back with you. My fan blade broke unexpectedly and I was better off buying a new fan than paying to ship internationally. This is why the 3 stars.

Buy the trusted metal fan!
This was a very bad purchase decision. There are good things about this fan that I'll discuss first. It's light, and the yolk that it mounts in makes it very easy to turn the fan over and run it the opposite direction. But ... Its loud. I use a speed control with it and throttle it down, but its still ... loud. I don't know why the description of this fan indicates that it may be quieter than the other metal fans. I have 3 of the Vortex metal fans and absolutely love them. This S series one will be replaced as soon as I can save a few pennies. It was only a few dollars cheaper than the metal fan to begin with. I was hoping this fan would improve upon what was already the best fan I've ever used. It was a nearly $200 mistake.

One heck of a fan for the price!
I bought this because my home has radon gas problems. Minor, to be sure, but ANY exposure is more than I want! My radon levels were actionable according to the EPA, up as high as 12 picocuries. After installing his fan to exhaust basement air to the outside radon levels dropped to 1.3, in the acceptable level. This fan replaced a supposedly more robust fan, but it pulls more air and is FAR quieter than my old fanExcellent buy!

Not the quiet...
I have been useing this fan since late April and I bought it for its quiet feature but two months later the fan is making a loud squeal which kinda the opposite of what I was going for. I gave up two stars cause I like the when the fan turns off the backdraft closes.

Removes unwanted air
This fan moves serious amounts of air. A spring on the damper was broken, so the damper wouldn't close. Contacted Vortex and they sent me two new dampers. Overall this is a quiet fan, the noise is the air moving at high speed. Installed a variable speed controller and the fan will run perfectly from 1-100%
