A first class kit from a first class company. ...
A first class kit from a first class company. Not for novice builders though.Almost finished with a Nieuport 28.Been modeling of and on since 1942 ant this is by far the most difficult . If you have the patience of Jobe the finished model is well worth it

Great model for experienced modelers
Very good quality in the wood parts but the metal engine parts do need a lot of prep work with minor deformations and some with excess flash but nothing terrible. I would recommend it

Mediocre quality of kit, not recommended if you want to build a beautiful model out of the box.
My husband received this as a gift and was excited at first, but then when he started digging into the kit and the construction, became disappointed. While there is a lot of parts in this kit, it will take a lot of extra work beyond building it straight out of the box to look good. The metal castings are terrible. The detail is soft at best, not very crisp, hard to see what they are representing, and some are not accurate at all (spark plugs for example). There are mold lines everywhere, and the majority of the parts do not match up at the seams, but are cast offset. There is a very sandy texture to the pieces that needs to be filed off and cleaned up with filler if you want it to look smooth, so you'll need to paint it and lose the natural metal finish. This is OK since the most of the metal parts require painting to look accurate, but again the parts themselves do not look that great for something this big of a scale. The biggest parts like the engine block, oil pan, and cylinders are the worst. The engine block and oil pan castings do not mate up, many of the corners aren't aligned, and the bolt head details are way to big. The cylinders all out of round, and the bases where they attach to the block are not square either. There are just so many issues with the metal castings over all.The laser cut wood frames are not a bad idea for a model that would be covered, but for one with an open skeleton, it is not ideal. There is significant char on all of the edges of the laser cut pieces which are very visible and cannot be sanded out. Sanding will remove about 50% of it but the inner layer of the plywood will remain charred and darkened no matter what you do. Also the laser was not pointing straight up and down, all of my wood pieces have a slight angle cut to them. The wood planks overall were pretty good with just a few having a some uneven or wavy cuts.I would have given it two stars, as there were also many parts missing: A whole bag of metal castings, and two pieces of wood, so make sure to do an inventory check, but Model Expo did respond quickly to a parts replacement request.Overall, would not recommend, and will not buy another kit from this brand.
