The love of Italy
I've used Rough Guides on a few previous trips, and recently dug out a somewhat elderly copy of the guide to Andalusia when revisiting Seville, so bought this to take along on a holiday in Southern Italy earlier this month. It's a comprehensive (and fairly hefty) guide to the whole country, handily divided into regions, and topped and tailed with helpful articles about its history, literature, architecture, culture, etc. I found these interesting, and the limited details it contained about the places we visited (Lecce, Matera, Bari, Vieste) were helpful - although these were clearly constrained by the amount of space available in a survey of the whole country. But I also read the guides to other Italian towns (inc. Padua, Florence, Mantova, Bergamo and Bassano) that we'd been to, and they provoked pleasant memories of earlier trips.
