God Calling (Inspirational Library)

I bought this to replace an older copy that had been given to me by my mother about 40 years ago. It got lost somewhere along the way. It is a good devotional and easy to read and understand. For some reason it isn't quite as inspirational to me now as it was then. That may be entirely me. That is the only reason I gave it 4 stars and I'm not really sure if that is fair since it is such a personal matter. However, if you are looking for devotionals that aren't too pushy and and just want a daily encouragement and kind words, I would suggest you give this a try. I am waiting to see if my heart has changed. It's definitely worth a try.

God Calling will exceed your expectations as far as a daily devotional. You will love, absolutely love how personal this little book really is. It also makes thee perfect gift for people of all ages, grads, retirement, birthday, Christmas. It's an all occasion gift given straight from the heart.

I have been through several copies of this book, as I have been reading it for over thirty years. Though it was written many years ago, the words are inspired , so always relevant.

I was given this book hardcover in 1999 by a friend it's now 2023 and I still read every single day . I am now buying for my youngest daughter. I pray it will help her as much as it has helped me and still does. I give this book a 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

In October of 2011, one day after I was taken to the emergency room for help for a severe emotional meltdown, my pastor gave me a copy of "God Calling." After being raised by a domineering, sexually and emotionally abusive father, I grew up to be a person in a constant state of stress. I was filled with fear and worry and had absolutely no self-confidence. I was so shy and fearful of people that it was almost impossible to function socially. Even with all of this on the inside, I still married and became a mother and later a grandmother. As the years passed and problems arose that I had to deal with, my ability to cope got worse and worse until eventually I couldn't cope any longer. I began having panic attacks. I suffered from depression and anxiety. The doctor gave me medicine that helped but the real healing came through the "God Calling" devotional. Even though it is written in daily segments, I would just open it randomly and from the very first day the writings spoke to exactly what I was dealing with. I began to feel the worry and fear lifting off of me as I read daily of God's love for me and His desire to heal and help me with whatever problems I was facing. As the weeks and months went by I was able to cut back on the medication that I was taking until eventually I didn't need it at all. I went from chronic insomnia to sleeping like a baby all night. Jesus talks in the book about the importance of laughter and peace and I began to experience both. I became a happy person, enjoying my life for the first time in my life. Six months after I first began reading "God Calling" I, who used to be the shyest person in the world, spoke to the congregation at our church and gave my testimony to the miraculous healing that I had experienced. Since then I have spoken three more times to the congregation, twice to the youth group, and this year and last year led a Lenten program based on the "God Calling" book. I actually enjoy speaking in public about the wonderful Jesus that I came to know so well through the writings in this book and His love and healing power that I have experienced in my life. I truly am "a new creation in Christ; old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become brand new." (IICorinthians 5:17) My husband says I'm like a butterfly now. I just float through life and leave the problems up to God, the One who is willing and able to take care of every problem and supply every need.Read this book. Receive the Love that God has for you and follow His instructions. You, too, will become a butterfly! God bless.

Great inspiration for a daily read......especially in the morning. Fits well the Proverbs :-)

This is a simple but profound book, which I have read constantly over decades. I must have read it from cover to cover 300 times. I often used to read it in a day. I always found new meanings and it often served as inspiration to prayer or when seeking guidance, I would open the book at random. This is a real gem. I also have the God at Eventide book, which is just as inspiring.

I have this book as a paper copy I like it so much I got this kindle version...It gives profound daily encouraging thoughts. the emphasis is on Jesus and a developing personal relationship with Him . it was written in the thirties... the thing that i find disconcerting is that this publication and maybe modern editions( I haven't checked them out)...In an effort i suppose to be more orthodox have added a Bible verse before the daily thought and a verse of a hymn after...while I have no doubt they are thoughtfully and prayerfully chosen however the thread of thought emphasised in the chosen passage and hymn may not be the bit that stands out to the reader.So to avoid the meditational thought being predefined I ponder the passage then read the verse before... some times the hymn but not often ...its a fantastic book

Amazing wonderful spiritual book. Quite different to the normal type of Christian book. I can honestly say that the daily readings are spiritually charged with words that indeed do sound just like they have come straight from Jesus when you reflect on what he says in the Gospels. Pray and read the book; it is a unique experience. I bought this book as a gift as I have had my own copy for years now and it is always a real touch from God when I read it.

I've been reading this little treasure for years & have literally bought at least 100 copies for others!!Always a word in season, especially in these last, dark days! Be assured God is with us, always. This book can help you soar with eagles again. Read alongside with your Bible reading, daily then you will be prepared for life's battles!!God is still on His throne & He loves His children, this book is the Holy Spirit talking directly to you!!Be blessed & encouraged :)

I can't say enough about this little book - I started reading it in 1985, and Jesus just stepped out of the pages and became so real i gave my life to Him and have been following Him ever since. I am still reading this little book, it never fails to comfort me, or teach me, or cheer and encourage me and sometimes i feel God is speaking to me directly through this book. I keep giving it away, and then have to buy another copy as i just miss it so much.
