AMACO AMO41821 SC3 Sculptamold Modeling Compound, 3 lb.

Most crafters (particularly, model railroad enthusiast) know "Sculptamold". It is a great product for casting realistic background scenery (rocks, hills abutments, etc.). It is easy to mix and use, has great working time and even allows you to sit (sometimes) up to a day to rethink what you did and allow you to recast portions. Lightweight and eventually dries very hard, yet still allows "tooling".

Sculptamold is a terrific product for creating terrain in the dioramas I build. My latest is a Lunar landscape. Mix in small batches as it sets fast - like a few minutes (3-4). I use in conjunction with plaster gauze and fine wire mesh for structure.

Easy to use product to make landscape, hills and mountains for your diorama or model railroad. Add water and mix, to a peanut butter consistency. You'll have about 8 to 10 minutes to make the shape and it will dry hard ready to paint.

This is the best modeling compound, ever. It is like papier-mâché and plaster of Paris combined, but with a clay-like consistency that you can work with in different ways. If you want a clay-like, hand-moldable substance, just add less water. If you want a slurry, add more water. Be aware that the normal combination is 2 parts of Sculptamold to 1 part water. When working with Sculptamold, I use fine chicken wire with 0.5-inch openings or hardware cloth as the support structure. I apply Sculptamold over the hardware cloth or fine chicken wire like clay. For sculptures, I use chicken wire & steel wire, forming the basic form, then applying Sculptamold over the wire "armature." Sculptamold will harden in about one hour. It will remain "wet" but hard for a couple of days, or sooner, depending upon your region's humidity level. In a dry, desert environment, Sculptamold will cure faster. Before painting, wait until it is completely bone dry. It will also feel lighter than it was when it was "wet." After painting, allow both the paint and the Sculptamold to dry completely again. If you want to make your sculpture more resistant to moisture, you can apply epoxy resin over it. I apply epoxy resin over the finished & painted piece when I am making reptile hide caves and artificial hollow logs. Once done, it is almost like stonework.

This stuff is awesome to work with it feels like a fiberglass type material with a little bit more weight. Once water is mixed,it’s like a drywall compound consistency. Dries very fast and hard.
