It Had to Be You: A High Contrast Book For Newborns (A Love Poem Your Baby Can See)

Third Copy I’ve Purchased!
I love this book. It’s a board book, so baby proof! It’s red, white and black so babies can see the pictures. The story is so moving for parents who have been waiting for their babies and sweet enough that children will understand how loved and wished for they are by their adults.I originally bought this book for myself but I have bought it two more times for parents who struggled with infertility and they also loved it. This is the first book of three and I have (and recommend) all three books!

My favorite Baby Book
After years of infertility and going thru IVF, my baby boy is finally here. Initially I bought this book because it’s a high contrast. It is the first book i read to him and it immediately brought me to (happy) tears. Such a sweet book and would make an amazing gift too. Highly recommend!

It had to be this book
This high-contrast book has quickly become a favorite in our home! The visuals are simple yet engaging, making it perfect for capturing our newborn’s attention during tummy time or quiet moments. The short, rhyming poem adds a sweet and calming touch, creating a lovely bonding experience for us.The book’s length is ideal for keeping a newborn’s focus, and the sturdy design is great for little hands as they grow. Highly recommend this as an early introduction to books—it’s educational, adorable, and a joy to read!

Oh my heart!
I’ve followed Loryn for a long time from the feminist baby comics, but when she recently started sharing her infertility and parenting journey I loved her work even more. While I am not parenting a special needs child like she is, I went through a few years of infertility like she and her husband did. Wanting a baby but your body not working right to make one is a surprising kind of hell and trauma that I would not wish on my enemies. But sometimes there is a silver lining to the story when you get lucky enough to become a parent through time, fertility treatments, or adoption - that baby has a glimmer of extra luck in your heart that makes all the sadness and grief of the infertility journey the tiniest bit less awful. I truly love and embrace those who decide not to pursue treatments or other methods, the healing that has to take place is immense.Anyway, this book could be for any family, not just those parenting after pregnancy loss or infertility. It truly speaks to how for many parents, the “ah ha” moment of meeting your child - whether they have special needs or not - is so deep and resounding when it happens (and it’s normal for that feeling to not be immediate and come with time, too). And of course, the babies love this book! My no-longer-a-baby 4 year old loves the story and to talk about how mama and daddy worked with doctors to get her here, and how special she is in our hears. I bought five copies just based on what Loryn shared from it on Instagram and upon arrival yesterday gave one to a neighbor with a younger baby who gazed intently at the beautiful contrasting black and white images. High marks from all the kiddos!Buy this book! And all Loryn’s other books! And follow @lorynbrantz on Instagram!

The best book for my future baby
I live all the way in Guatemala and found out about Loryn through her HONY post. I have a 15 year old I had when I was 15 myself, so motherhood has been a very "different" experience for me. I got married 3 years ago to the love of my life, a man who loves my kid as his and with whom we have created our own little family. However, in the past year, I have been longing for another baby, we all have, even my 15 year old can't wait to become a big brother. Due to our financial situation and being plan freaks, we have planned to get pregnant early next year. However, when I read the preview for this book, I knew it was for us, for our 15 year old and our future baby. I know that the baby I received when I was 15 was perfect for me, and is now a perfect kid. I also know that the baby we are wishing to have next year will be just as perfect for our family. So basically, what I want to say is thank you Loryn for creating such a beautiful that makes me cry each and everyt ime I read it. Can't wait to share it with the baby once it comes.
