Project Based Learning (PBL) Starter Kit

I have been researching Project-Based Learning to implement in my classroom since I started teaching four years ago. This is by far the most useful book I have found. Buck Institute of Education has the handouts available on the website, so the kindle version would work just fine. I ended up ordering both. It gives you a clear cut path to implementing a project in your classroom. It is actually designed for you to plan one as you read it. It was a nice relief of book after book of theory without any real guidance on practical application. If you are thinking of starting your first project or even if you have some experience with projects, I highly recommend you check out this book as it will drastically increase the quality of work and smoothness of your project (if projects can and should really go smoothly). FYI, I teach High School Science and used this book to plan four projects this year. They were the most successful learning experiences I have probably set up, and like I said, I have been working at implementing PBL for four years. BIE has some great resources. Check out their website before you purchase to see where they are coming from. I don't think you will regret Project Based Learning or using this book to get you there, unless you are not into student-centered learning.

The book was not new. It had annotations in it when I received it. Pretty sure I should not have paid the price for a new copy. Good book. Good material.

I've done a few PBLs, and I've reaped the benefits of highly engaged students, deeper inquiry, and fantastic learning products. Despite this, I still felt that there were some missing pieces. This book gave me new perspective on the importance of formative assessments along the way, aligning PBLs to standards, actually planning the teaching of 21st Century Skills (not just assigning a speech and expecting them to get it), and more. PBL takes years to master, and this book is a great tool help you get there.

I found this book very helpful as I launch into refining my first attempts and creating new project-based learning modules for my physics and career tech high school classes.Step by step format helped me and the templates and examples for various grade levels will also help me jump start for summer junior high STEM camp and next Fall's courses.The on-line resources are also much appreciated.

This book should be required reading for all future teachers in their teacher prep programs. It provides a clear description of what powerful teaching and learning experiences can and should be in today's classrooms. For those already in the teaching profession, the abundance of PBL resources combined with the practical guidance provided in this book, greatly supports any teacher who seeks to transform the learning experiences for his/her students.

Could not believe the price for the text. Thankfully it was available as an e-book for 10$ of the price. Strange.
