Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse

Very cute book for young toddlers and girls. I find story and easy to read.

I’ve loved Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse since I was a child, and it has now become my go-to book whenever a friend announces a pregnancy or I’m invited to a baby shower where guests are asked to bring a book instead of a card. The illustrations are colorful and engaging. The story is funny for both children and adults. It’s also great book for building conversations around emotions, taking accountability, and behavior. I highly recommend Kevin Henkes' books!

Cute story Read it to my granddaughter who is two years old. I think she would appreciate it a little more when she gets a little older, but it was a great story.

Kevin Henkes teaches such good life lessons in his books. We purchased this favorite for a new generation of readers.

Nice size book that comes with an additional paper cover. Kids can relate easily because it happens at school. Bought as a gift. Bright drawings and many of them.

This is one of the two or three books that I buy for all of my friends who are having babies-- a classic deserving of shelf space right along with "Where the Wild Things Are," "Amos and Boris," "George and Martha," "Ferdinand," "The Cat in the Hat," and (new favorite) "Food Hates You Too." In particular, "Lilly" is a must for children starting school. It tracks the complexity of the kindergartner/ teacher relationship-- the student's infatuation with the teacher, her disillusionment, her betrayal, her remorse, her amends. The child-mouse Lilly (familiar from other Henkes books, like "Chester's Way") is irrepressible, well-meaning, and spiteful-- a real kid. Angry at her beloved teacher, Mr. Slinger, after he confiscates for the day her purple purse because she keeps interrupting class to show it off, Lilly retaliates by producing a nasty drawing of "big fat mean Mr. stealing teacher" and slipping it into Mr. Slinger's book bag. After he returns the purse and she finds snacks in it accompanied with a note ("today was a difficult day. Tomorrow will be better"), Lilly is horrified, stricken with remorse. How she makes amends to the perfectly understanding Mr. Slinger (all teachers should be Mr. Slinger!) is a good lesson for children on the importance of saying I'm sorry, without ever being preachy or saccharine. Henkes is terrific because he doesn't sugar-coat his characters; part of what makes Lilly special is that she has her flaws. This book is a true classic.

What's not to love about Lilly? My daughter absolutely loved this book/story as a little girl and she can not wait to read it to her little girl someday. The story line has a way of teaching patience to little ones as they hold all of the excitement on the inside of wanting to share something important to them. It also teaches lessons on issue of having a rough day can be turned around and tomorrow will be another new day. You truly need to read this story because when you do, you'll find that you'll have a spring in your step just like Lilly and the only thing missing is the purple plastic purse. :)

book itself is great quality, drenched in nostalgia and whimsy, so happy to have it!

This is a very nice book to read. It also has a good morale lesson in it especially for young children growing up. Grown ups may love to read this to their children.

My kids love this book when they were younger and now my granddaughter is enjoying it as well. It is also a great way to teach kids how to manage their feelings.

Kevin Henkes at his best! Funny, witty, the reader is truly drawn into Lilly's world and her fascinating purple plastic purse! Fabulous drawings!

A estória é interessante pra crianças a partir de 4 anos, é engraçada até mesmo para adultos, e o vocabulário é simples pros pequenos que estão aprendendo inglês.
