Crackle Paste by GOLDEN, 8 fl. oz. Jar, Professional Acrylic Paste Medium, Opaque

Works great wonderful texture.

I use this crackle paste in many of my textural mixed media art panels. I love that you can vary the the depth of the crackle to get different effects. I apply it out of the container, let it dry, then paint. Paint will soak into the cracks. I use different viscosity paints and applicators (from brushes to sponges) to paint on the dried crackle surface. The liquid acrylics, acrylic inks and soft body paints give the most dramatic looks. (1st image shows my different textures applied to the canvas, the crackle paste makes up most of the background surrounding picture of the cat; 2nd image shows first layer of paints applied to the background of the cat picture) In case you are wondering, the cat image is created with Fiber Paste.

I love this stuff! It is finicky about surface preparation. The best results are when this paste is applied over a matte medium such as gesso or acrylic matte paint. It doesn't show the color underneath so if that's the type of crackle glaze you're looking for, this is not the product you want. I painted the dried crackle paste with glazes where the thin glaze fills the cracks and it is absolutely gorgeous. Plus, it adds a lot of attractive texture to your composition and the results are stunning. If the paste is applied thickly (1/2 to 3/4 inches) it won't start cracking until the next day and doesn't finish cracking until 3 to 4 days. But when the paste is applied less than 1/4 inch it will start cracking in a couple of hours. Still, it requires a few days for curing. Waiting on the drying time is a pain in the butt...it's worth it, I promise!!

Just re purchased. I expect it has other uses other than painting but this is my primary use. I use it in acrylic painting. It does have a slight odor if you are very sensitive. but it did not bother me and I am extremely odor sensitive with asthma.

Very easy to work with, glides onto my surface like melted butter. Super light weight. I'm really going to enjoy working with this stuff!In my photo I've just started work on some tags so they aren't finished, it's just the crackle paste on them.

I was impressed how quickly the paste set and cracked. I expected it take take hours, maybe even a day, from the previous descriptions I read. However, it was already dry and cracked within an hour (maybe because I put on a thin layer).If you want good, deep cracks, you'll want to use a thick application. However, if you just need some shallow cracks, like for mud on a train display or tabletop war-gamming terrain, this stuff works great. I can't wait to use it to make some lava fields and cracked earth.

Wasn't impressed. Won't be purchasing again

I reviewed this earlier and wrote that it needs to be applied thick to get the cracks to show. I was wrong. Even applied super thin it’ll show cracks, tho’ they’ll be small so hard to see. This stuff works exactly as it’s supposed to and for me it works great.
