Great for learning and practicing Shellac finishes
I wanted to experiment with the use of shellac as a wood finish. This cost effective option is allowing me to experiment with different cuts, French polishing, etc. As far as I can tell, it is a good product.

Great product, works well.
Quality finish. As good as any brand I've used. Color is as advertised. Mixes well. Shellac can be tricky, make sure you know what to do with this product before you order it.

Fresh shellac matters
This shellac is great for making sealing wax with Venice turpentine. It's an obscure use, but the old shellac flakes I had were completely unusable. References suggested that, in general, mixed with alcohol shellac has a one year shelf life, and dry flakes have a three year shelf life.

Small chips, needs straining
Needs to be strained after mixing, seemed to have extra sentiment. Small chips so it ground up into a fine dust easily.

Works great, could be cheaper
I used this to seal MDF for my 36 x 26 router table top. My first time with shellac flakes.I used 99% isopropyl alcohol, 10oz to 1/2 cup of flakes for a 5-1 mix. Didn't grind the flakes first.I put the mixture in a glass jar with tight lid, set the jar into a narrow saucepan with 2" of hot water. The small diameter pan kept the jar from tipping over.I swirled the jar every 10 minutes or so. and in an hour, it was 100% dissolved, at least to my eyes.It went on smoothly, dried in minutes. Enough for 3 thin coats. For a thinker mix, 4-1, use only 8oz alcohol.

Remains tacky
I have used BT&C shellac flakes for many years on my wood turnings and decided to try this cheaper product. As usual, you get what you pay for. I always mix a 1# cut using DNA. This product does not dry hard enough to finish sand as I've done for years. It remains slightly tacky no mater how long I let it dry and does not produce the finish I'm used too.Not recommended for art pieces.

Simple to use with denatured alcohol.
First time trying this product. I think it is a good one. Some advocate putting a measure of dry shellac flakes in a jar and then adding denatured alcohol. I chose to put the flakes inside folded paper and pulverize it with a hammer, gently breaking the flakes into something miscible with denatured alcohol. Application methods can vary with the use of brushes or using a rag balled up, dipping and spreading according to experts I found such as Christophe Pourny in his book "The Furniture Bible" which is also excellent and worthy of a reference in one's library. These lac flakes were clean and free of debris.
