Plug and play, all you need is an open spreadsheet or word processor document and it populates a table with the scanned bar code numbers. I use it for training demos and it's really effective. If you want it to check stocks etc then probably better to pay a bit more for a cable free version or you'll have to cart around your tablet or laptop too.

Great little scanner
Bought to record a load of boxes of hardware, the scanner made recording the details easy, used excel to record into and after the bar code is recorded the scanner appears to press the enter key so excel drops down a line, works in word and other applications as well. Saved hours and the recordings are accurate.

Very pleased with this, easy to set up and use. Easy to use inventory mode with easy down load. Wireless range limited if you have meter thick walls but good range on more normal walls.

this scanner is super slow and doesn't work all the time, build quality is very poor will stay away from this item, better and more durable and faster scanners out there in the market and cheaper
