Good Experience
I note some users report issues including defective units, luckily for me I have had a good outcome. Bought as my first sound decoder, I removed the basic dcc decoder I had fitted to my Bachman 3F 0-6-0 loco, and after realising I was trying to plug in upside down duh! added the Hornby module and plugged in the sugar cube speaker. I was using a Bachman dcc controller. Using iPhone the app installed, signed in and it quickly found the device on bluetooth. I created a profile and uploaded a photo of the Fowler 3F, run the updates to the firmware. I selected out the nearest steam loco profile for a 4F loco, and loaded it on took about 15-20min. Has worked brilliantly with intuitive controls has lots of fun.Selected the largest speaker box and superglued onto the weight plate in the tender, snug fit, coiled wire around box and the tender went back together. Sound quality excellent.Impressed with switch over between dcc manual control and bluetooth, works without issue. Its been 3 days no issues.

Great product
A dcc decoder I had didn't work properly in my hornby 67007. I was recommended one of these by hornby. This decoder is absolutely brilliant. Easy to install the decoder and speaker in my particular locomotive. Can control on standard dcc controller or with the hornby app. I downloaded the sound files for my 67 and the variety of functions is brilliant and the sound is decent quality too out of the speaker. Better than older tts sound decoders. No need upgrade to any sound decoder that's more expensive - I am made up with this purchase and will look to buy more when I need to. Great product.

Game changer but with issues
These are a game changer if you can get them to work. Sometimes they work first time and the loco moves and sound plays. Other times you can spend hours getting it to download only to have sound play with no movement or no sound file found and have to reset and start again.Clearly there are bug issues and I’ve sent one back out of 6.Hornby needs to issue more sound profiles quicker for models they don’t produce but can take market share for those wishing to switch.App works great and locos run well once you manage to set it all up.I’ll keep with HM7000 for now

DCC Simplified
I have installed 2 of these and the associated Dongle and with current firmware (April 2024) everything is working as expected. The same for my HM7000-fitted TT:120 locomotive. I can only speculate why other users are having problems but it could be the result of poor installation. I have used Kapton tape to eliminate the possibility of contact with any live parts of the locomotive circuit. It could a be poor power supply. I use an old Hornby Elite controller but any standard DCC supply will work. It could be slow broadband. It takes me less than 10 minutes to change or update a profile. It could be dirty track as that always causes problems. It could be a lack of knowledge on how to set up DCC CV values. The app helps with this. I honestly do not know what it is.All I can say for certain is that HM7000 is working for me, and reliably so. The app is easy to use and gives the easiest way of setting up CV values that I have encountered, and I have used JMRI as well as my old Hornby Elite. The firmware is easy to update. The sound profiles are easy to update. It can take a bit of ingenuity to fit the optimum speaker enclosure but there are some good video examples from the usual online sources. There are better sound profiles out there and better synchronised steam "chuff" sounds, but at a price. You will have to decide if it is worth the extra cost. When properly installed and set up, the HM7000 decoders in my experience are excellent value.

True game changer
I’ve fitted loads of TTS decoders which are pretty decent in my opinion for the price to get sound on my locos.I’ve been wanting to try one of these new decoders since they came out and took the plunge when Amazon had an offer on them. These decoders are a true game changer for me with the ability to control the locos with my phone and truly access all the sounds easily and fast. Also the auto sound feature is great as it randomly put different sounds on while I do other things.Sound quality is also a step up from TTS in my opinion and while not as good as top end decoders are fine for me.The biggest problem no comes as did changing to TTS originally…… I want to have more of these fitted into more of my locos as I’m finding it such a pleasure to operate my layout now

Hornby HM7000 decoder with sound
Have now purchased 2 of these decoders. 1st kept having to reset kept stop working.2nd the decoder sound female clip fell off when fitting male speaker clip.In my view better off my locomotive with sound fitted or buying decoder with correct sound. Also Very few locomotive sound choice to download.I will carry on using Hornby Elite controller.

Needs quality control
This is potentially a good system however I have had to return 2 so far, although when the work they are great. So far I've had 3 that work and 2 that don't.

Hornby 21 Pin DCC Decoder [Class 66]
The media could not be loaded. Hornby 21 Pin DCC Decoder [Class 66] - Easy purchase, this product works it's easy to install, removing the blanking plate, fitting the new DCC decoder in the same place, like for like replacement. Use the HM /DCC app to connect the locomotive to the app, upload a profile to the decoder, lift the loco for 5 secs of the track, [sometime takes a couple of attempts, might need to update the app] it does work. Link the device, test F28 function, it runs through all the sound as the locomotive. Switch to DCC control Mode to run with a digital controller system or use a Hornby Elite system.
