I believe so. I thought first of all it didn't work, but it did change as the bottle was used.

Yep, it would be suitable for all cylinders except that is is extremely unreliable. I think it works on the difference in temperature of cold liquid gas Vs evaporated gas (?) therefor you need to place then magnetic strip in the right place to determine where the liquid level is - I wouldn't buy another!

how do you read the level from the matrix of squares that are a variety of colours?

I bought one of these a couple of years ago. They are far from accurate! I believe the scale on the left should indicate the liquid level of gas in the bottle. I think it works on the priciple that the evaporating gas is cooler than the gas liquid level, so the liquid gas indicates red (warm) and the interface between the liquid and the gas is blue (colder). The trick is knowing where to put the magnetic patch in the first place......it wasn't worth the money in my view.
