Crescent Nicholson 10" File Card and Brush | 21467

This file card brush does the job effectively. I was surprised how good a job the bristle brush side did to clean a wood file. I haven't had a chance to use the metal bristles to clean out a file after metal work, but they look like they would do the job. I recommend it.

As mentioned in other reviews: if you have files, you need a file card!Recently, metal machining has piqued my curiosity; I have viewed many videos online and read many forums about various machining techniques. There are many different ways to build/assemble/modify metal parts and materials. (I've just begun to scratch the surface.) What surprised me is how often files are still used in the modern machine shop. (I've owned and used files for years, but not like machinists do.)What I quickly learned is that a file is a tool, just like any other. If you want any tool to last longer and function at its best, you want to keep it in top shape. This is what a file card is for. Every time you're finished using your file, you should clean it with a file card.Upon realizing this, I ordered this file card. Once I received it, I cleaned all of my files (about six) thoroughly. After a few minutes, I had a pile of shavings and rust on my workbench from files that I had thought were relatively clean! Well worth the money.

It does what it supposed to and is of decent quality.

I have saved several files being able to clean them using this card.

Cleans files well but sometimes I still need some oil and a wire wheel for really embedded metal files. Wood files are a breeze.

Absolute must have for any filing.

I tried another cheaper one first but it wasn't such a good deal when I tried to use it. This one really works great. I had some very old files, some not so old files and even some fairly new files that all needed to be cleaned up. It takes awhile for each file, of course, and I'm not done yet either. But little by little I'll have them all cleaned up.P.S. I tried a couple of years ago to get one of these at a hardware store. The employee looked at me like a deer in the headlights. I didn't know the name of the tool at the time, but I did describe it clearly enough that I would have expected him to know what I wanted.

If you do any file work you should own one of these. Wish I had one years ago. Holding up perfectly after using to help restore 30 or more old rusty files and does a great job with regular maintenance.
