What is your purpose?
It was tough choosing between this book and Aquilina's The Fathers of the Church: An Introduction to the First Christian Teachers.That decision was made easier by asking what is the purpose of my reading in this area?For academics like myself, The Fathers of the Church: A Comprehensive Introduction is the choice.For the less academically inclined, the popular book by Aquilina is the one to read.Too bad that The Fathers of the Church: A Comprehensive Introduction is not published in Kindle yet.

The book does an excellent job of providing biographical information about the fathers
The book does an excellent job of providing biographical information about the fathers, however it does not present their writings, per se.It offers extensive bibliographies that point to their writings. I was hoping to actually read what the fathers wrote, rather than just leaarning about their lives and historical contexts. I should have read more about the book before buying it.
