Am I reading the dimensions right on this model-seems awfully big compared to the MF4890

Yes, the dimension in the product description are in cm. 15.4" (W) x 14.9" (D) x 14.2" (H) are correct - *but* note that with paper loaded the paper try will stick out at least an additional three inches, so keep that in mind if installing in a confined space.

Does the scanner scan both sides of a document at once?

Hi Dlt074. Yes, the imageCLASS MF229dw is designed to do both duplex scanning and printing.

Does this scan to a PDF file?

Hi Matt! You sure can scan to a PDF! If you have the imageCLASS MF229dw and need assistance, feel free to contact our all-American technical support team by phone or email at http://bit.ly/ContactCanon

Will the mf229dw still scan (and fax) with an empty print cartridge? Other similar Canon models disabled scan when just one cartridge was empty

Hello! The imageCLASS MF229dw will continue to allow fax and scan functions after the toner cartridge is empty. We hope this helps!
