Not Good For Solar Eclipse Pictures.
April 8, 2024 was a beautiful day for the Solar Eclipse in our area. I was so happy to witness that spectacular event! I purchased the SafeShot Solar Eclipse Viewer in an effort to get a few pictures of the Solar Eclipse. When taking the pictures, I was disappointed of the end result of the photos…they were not what I expected. A good camera capable of capturing these Solar Eclipse photos would be one’s best bet.

Great way to look at the sun and a solar eclipse!
I decided to purchase this item right before the recent solar Eclipse. I have always enjoyed any unique events that take place with the sky and the items in it and this seemed like it would be a good way to experience the eclipse.I am so glad that I purchased it! While it was nice to look through the window made for your eyes to look through, the section for the camera was astounding.I decided to not attach the thin velcro to the viewer as I didn't want to stick the other half on my phone case and then have to get sticky residue off afterwards. I did not find it at all hard to hold my phone flat against the card so that the camera lenses were in the window as I held the handle section. I was then able to use my free hand to play with zooming the image and clicking the photo and video button. The only issue I had was that my arms started to get tired after a bit, but if I had a camera/phone mount to hold the phone in place that would have helped. As you can see by a few of the pictures I posted, the phone camera was able to take lovely shots through the window. You could see sun spots and the quality did not diminish once the eclipse was past and the entirety if the sun was photographed. That adds to the use of this item as any type of sun photography is possible, beyond just an eclipse.Overall, I feel this was well worth the money and I would not hesitate to buy it again, and I have already shared links to this product to family members and friends.

Returned, didn’t need
Bought these for the Apr 8 2024 total eclipse. Bought the multi pack to share with family.Glad I didn’t open them in advance because where we were in upstate NY was a solar eclipse bust. We were socked in with solid cloud cover and rain until an hour after the event. These DID seem well made, not flimsy. I would buy again if another eclipse opportunity comes up (2026 is in Egypt).

Velcro is not strong enough to hold phone
I was excited about purchasing this camera filter, but the adhesive on the back of the Velcro is not very strong, and the Velcro itself is not nubby enough to hold the cell phone in place. You also need to remove your camera case for the adhesive on the back of the Velcro to stick to the phone and to ensure the lenses are snugly pressed up against the filter. I liked the design of this camera filter, which protects your eyes and allows you to view the eclipse while taking photos. The first couple photos I took were OK, but after that, I got a glare between the filter and the camera lenses, and thus caught the reflection instead of the actual eclipse on 4/8/2024. If you purchase this for future eclipses, make sure you use postal tape and perhaps criss-cross rubber bands to hold the camera to the filter, as well as taping the filter snugly to the top of the phone to fit snugly to the top of your phone and lenses. My 3-month old iPhone detached from the filter and went tumbling down concrete steps. I now have to pay Apple $169 to replace the cracked glass on the back of my phone.

Worked great for me! Too bad I have to wait twenty years to use it again.
In preparation for the 2024 solar eclipse, I did some tests holding my iPhone 13 Pro up to the lens of a pair of solar glasses and thought it could be better. After doing a bit of research on how best to photograph the eclipse with my iPhone, I read about an iPhone app called Solar Snap that allows users to bypass the iPhone's built-in camera app which tends to become confused when taking photos of the sun.At the last minute, I ordered a four pack of these SafeShot Solar Eclipse Viewers. I'm really glad I did. Attaching the Velcro was not an issue and it held my iPhone in place securely. I shared the extra SafeShots with my family and friends so they could all capture the moment. The SafeShot combined with Solar Snap got me some really nice photos of the eclipse that I'll cherish forever as a reminder of one of nature's totally awesome events.

It was safe but hard to see through
While it was definitely rated for ISO 12312-2, that did not make it easy to see through. Particular at half-arm's length. You could barely make out the sun. The cover for the camera worked but it's placement was not convenient for actually taking any pictures and could have benefitted from being a shade or two darker as there was a lot of halo effect when using.

Eclipse through the clouds
I love that I was able to use my phone and see the eclipse through this viewer. After I got my phone going, I actually didn’t use the view box much, I just watched my phone screen. But, the large card helped to shield my eyes if I looked away, so that was nice. I had the paper glasses too, but they wouldn’t stay in place unless I held them. This worked much better! The adhesive worried me at first, not sure how sticky it would be and how hard it would be to get off my phone. Super easy to take off, but super grippy while I needed it to hold on. It was like Velcro, so I could let a friend borrow my card for their phone for a bit. They just held their phone tight to the card, and it worked like a charm.
