So, this does come being made with both metal and plastic. The better ones usually are made all metal but cost 2 to 3 times as much as this one. You get value for your money with this, but when installing it I use plumbers putter under the top rim of the strainer on the sink side. That way when I am tightening the plastic locking nut, I don't have to over crank it to get it watertight. All the plumbing connecting to this in your house is probably thin-walled white plastic to schedule 40 pvc. Plastics are okay, just don't over crank them. The strainer itself is stainless steel and the removable basket is super convenient. Overall, great value in a decent sink strainer, once installed accordingly.

Its a thinner gauge than what they used to be. They used to be all solid stainless steel. This one has plastic in it too so for the price they are asking not really a deal.

Nice set. Works well. Love the strainer basket that you can just pull out and throw the food scrap out. Way better than the drain that comes with the sink. Better quality and well thought of.

This would be perfectly fine as a run of the mill kitchen sink drain. It’s decent quality stainless steel, comes with the gaskets and connector you expect, and the price is about average. But there’s two things that make this stand out: First, the little metal basket sits in there, to make sure debris doesn’t go down the drain. Second, instead of a flimsy rubber stopper, it has a nice stainless one. Assuming the seal holds up, it’s a nice improvement.

This strainer assembly kit is good quality, and it was relatively easy to install. I am pleased with all the components, but I do wonder about the longevity of the plastic component in this kit.The basket piece is what I am really happy with because that catches the food debris that invariably will get past us even after scraping plates before taking them to the sink. It was the stopped up sink and subsequent expensive plumber visit that convinced me to get this kit so that food would no longer be a cause for clogging the kitchen sink. I miss having a disposall to take care of food, but this effective drain basket does a great job catching food, and it’s easy enough to empty and clean.Overall I think this is a really good value at this price point, and it’s not hard to install yourself.
