Do You Think Love can Bloom, Even on a Battlefield?
For years the only game I truly loved was Halo. I do like other games of course, but none had come close to the depth and well crafted storytelling of Halo for me... until I played Metal Gear Solid. My first Metal Gear game was Revengeance, and I was hooked. Then I played MGSV and I was blown away. It was undoubtedly one of the best games I’ve ever touched. I had to play the others, and so I got the Legacy Collection for PS3... until my PS3 died on me, and so I picked this up. If you own an Xbox 360, or Xbox One, and like games with fun gameplay and amazing stories, it is your obligation to add this to your library of games. This collection includes MGS 2 and 3, Peace Walker, and the Nintendo games Metal Gear and Metal Gear: Solid Snake- both of those found in the MGS3 menu.MGS2 is a revolutionary entry for the series as it was one of the first games on the PS2 system, and it pushed for realism an advanced mechanics. For example:-Snake can catch a cold if he’s outside in the rain too long, causing him to sneeze- which can alert guards.-Trying to roll/cartwheel up/down the stairs causes you to fall on your face like an idiot.-Shooting glass leaves bullet holes before it shatters after being shot multiple times.-The floor in front of a doorway is wet from outside rain. That’s just a fraction of the details that this 2001 game had in it. A detailed game world calls for an equally complex story. The campaign of MGS2 follows Solid Snake and Raiden as they uncover the plans of Revolver Ocelot and the Patriots. Who are the Patriots? What do they want? What will they do with this new Metal Gear Ray? It’s a complex story of war, corruption, and nano machines. If MGS2 was a revolution, MGS3 was a further perfection of in-depth tactical action as camo, eating, surgery, medicine, and acquirable weapons continued to push this legendary series. Set in the Cold War, this game serves as an origin story for everybody’s favorite eyepatch wearing geezer, Big Boss. This game is meant to demonstrate how the green pupil becomes the master through pain and loss. As Naked Snake is on a mission to rescue a scientist from a rouge Russian terror group, he is betrayed by The Boss- his former mentor and mother figure. After he extracts and heals up, Snake must return to the jungles of Russia (yes that’s a real thing), and kill The Boss in Operation Snake Eater. This game offers you complete tactical freedom, even going so far as to let you knock out each boss instead of directly killing them. One of the bosses can even be beat by saving your game, playing something else for a week (probably MGS2), and booting it up after the full 7 days. At that point, that boss dies from old age. It’s crazy details like this that make the game work. It’s an amazing story about lies, the true meaning of war, the role of a soldier vs the needs and wants of a soldier, and what it means to be a soldier without a nation. Finally, you get MGS Peacewalker, a portable spin-off that was made available in this collection. Even with a lower quality being a PSP port, MGSPW is still an entertaining game. This game covers the beginning of Big Boss’ career as a PMC (Private Military Corporation) operator. Basically, a Russian spy voiced by Steve Blum (Wolverine, Spike Spiegel, and many more) hires Big Boss to push the CIA out of some South American countries. For spoiler reasons relating to MGS3, I can’t go further. Just know, the story is good for a PSP title. The gameplay, albeit a little clunky, feels a lot like MGSV in terms of movement, gunplay, and grappling mechanics. It’s simple, but a welcome edition to the collection.Overall, this is an essential collection for any gamer, and deserves the upmost respect. Enjoy this game and remember... lalilulelo.

Great games, but the condition of the disc was horrible.
First of all, I LOVE the MGS games, but my disc came with 2 ring scratches and a few other scratches on the edge of the disc. I have sent the game back and will be receiving a replacement. Until then, I will keep the review at 2 stars. Anyway, for the actual review:MGS2: This game didn't work but I have this game for PS2.The game starts off with Snake crossing a bridge, ready to board a ship that contains the new Metal Gear. Snake jumps aboard the ship with his stealth camouflage and it goes bad and is no longer active. Your mission is to get visuals of the new Metal Gear. (You take pictures of the fronts, side-angles, and a Marine logo.) After that the ship is hi-jacked by ocelot, blowing the ship up with C4 and snake is left for dead...The game then places you 2 years later in the "Big shell" a cleanup facility due to the Tanker sinking. Solid snake is dead and you play as Raiden, a new FOXHOUND member, sent to rescue President Johnson. The President dies and you are now supposed to take out the new Metal Gear Rays.MGS3: Your mission is to rescue "Sokolov" a man developing a new weapon known as the Shagohad (basically a first version of Metal Gear). You are supposed to rescue him because he is held captive by Colonel Volgin, a man wanting to take out Kruschev and gain Military strength. Your a CIA agent known as Snake (Big boss- Solid, Liquid and Solidus snake's dad. After your first attempt at rescue you left for dead by your teacher of CQC "The Boss". You're badly wounded and picked up by Major Zero and brought to a hospital in the USA. After that you have a new mission, same objective. Except this one is more detailed. (and harder.)Over-all, the new graphics and wider perception, it makes an already great series, greater. The boss battles are always epic, plenty of gear and weapons. A lot of Easter eggs. You also receive the Substance version of MGS2 (so you also get VR missions and snake tales) and the Subsistence version of MGS3 (that means the original Metal gear and Metal Gear 2: solid snake)Oh, and I forgot Peace Walker, i'm newer to it, so sorry for the Lack of review.EDIT: I ordered a replacement from amazon, it came free of charge. As long as the original gets back to Amazon before 30 days after you buy something, it's free. The new copy worked without problem.

Oh, what memories...
This has to be one of the best purchases I have made for the 360 thus far. There is no game in my collection for the PSX, PS2, or any other system I've ever owned that I've spent this much time playing. The memories brought back have been immense and wonderful, and I can easily foresee playing this collection over the next year or so.Metal Gear Solid 2 is very beautifully remade, though I miss the pressure-sensitive square button. You get used to it over time, but if you've played MGS2 or 3 on the PS2, it's irksome. Nonetheless, I love all of the attention to detail that's gone into upscaling the game and making it new. Solidus is just as painful and tense to fight as he was on the PS2, and Fatman is still one of the most annoying bosses EVER.I haven't even gotten to Metal Gear Solid 3 yet, because there's so much in Peace Walker to do.And Peace Walker, the one I never got a chance to play before I got the HD Collection. I don't own a PSP, so I never got to try it out, but it is amazing. There's so much to do, from the 33 or so main story missions, 128 "extra ops", and the whole collecting soldiers and volunteers for research and performing "outer ops" missions. Apparently, the controls were slightly wonky on the PSP, so I got really lucky having only been exposed to it on the 360. It's my favourite game in the collection right now, and I can't get enough of it.The value of this collection is absolutely immense, despite the absence of the original Metal Gear Solid. If you loved MGS2 or 3, or even Peace Walker on the PSP, get this - the nostalgia factor alone makes it worth it.

This actually comes with 5 Metal Gear games despite only showing three in the front.
Very fun! I played MGS2 and am currently doing a playthrough of 3. The game comes packed in with MGS2, MGS3 and Peacewalker just like it shows on the box. However it also has the first 2 Metal Gear Games (the 2D ones) within MGS3 and they are also full gaming experiences!
