But every now and then when I would remember I would see how much better my kids would respond to positive discipline
Bit difficult of a read, especially at the beginning. But her methods make sense. Difficult to do with my five young children (ages 5-11) At least difficult to remember to do when you are in the midst of whining and misbehavior. But every now and then when I would remember I would see how much better my kids would respond to positive discipline. Also I noticed my 11 year old daughter learning to recognize when someone was being disrespectful to her and responding in a healthy manner. It really underscored to me how much my children learn from my own behavior. I'll keep trying to incorporate her methods even though it seems really difficult to break habits I was brought up with and have used for 11 years.

A must have for all teachers!!
This book is AMAZING!! I purchased this book for a online course. It is easy to read and has real inspiring stories from teachers. This book is a must have for all teachers and paraprofessionals. It covers many discipline issues from K-12. It explains the importance of teaching children problem solving skills. It also teaches you how to connect with your students and build a positive classroom community.

Good reference book
I have not read this book cover to cover. I did read the introduction where it was describing students and why they misbehave. I then have used the rest as a resource to go to when I am sitting at night reflecting on the day. I think this book would be helpful if there was a team of people looking for some understanding and ideas. Although there isn't a lot of in-depth info on each topic, there is a starting spot for many of the common behaviors I see at my school.

Positive Discipline
Explains different personality types and divides mis-behavior into four understandable catergories. Gives real classroom examples (makes it easy to picture each "type" of kid) and you can even put kids you've taught into each category. Book discusses importance of following procedures and having class meetings. Explains HOW to do this as well. Gives examples of how a teacher reacts to situations and consequences for which direction teacher chooses. Book lists any discipline issue you can dream of and explains what each is, gives suggestions for how to handle it, has planning ahead to prevent future problems, and then gives inspirational stories. A terrific resource for every teacher!

Not full of much help
Perhaps it is because I have been teaching for 27 years, but this book has nothing new to say and is not worth the price. Perhaps a new teacher would benefit from this book.
