Great Unit
This is a really nice DVD/CD writer. Fit perfectly into the drive space of Dell's OptiPlex 7000 tower. Great writing speeds, no glitches or problems whatsoever. Much better quality and durability than the slim profile unit that came with the OptiPlex. I did not use the software that came with it based upon the other reviews on this unit... I already have my favorites. Very happy I selected this unit...

Great for burning audio CDs
I purchased this CD/DVD drive as it was recommended in a forum as being a good quality for burning audio disks. I have an old CD player from around the late 80s/early 90s and so it is very fussy about reading burned CD-Rs.This drive will burn any CD-R I put into it at 8x speed (while some drives I have will refuse to burn slower than 10x or 16x, depending on the brand. Even when some CD-R media is officially not supporting speeds lower than 16x, this drive will burn at that lower speed.)I have tried Verbatim CD-R, Verbatim Music CD-R, Maxell Music CD-R, and Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-R. With this drive at 8x speed, only the non-music Verbatim CD-R failed to read properly in my old player (it starts playing but cannot skip properly to any track later than 2 or 3). The burn quality is much more reliable than my two external USB slim drives and my other internal CD drive. There is one review mentioning malware on the packaged CDs. I have not touched them and there is no reason to do so. Any software like ImgBurn can be acquired online from a reliable source and the unit is plug-and-play friendly.

Not the same as the the old ones but very good
Used for recording CDs. Not quite as good as my old one that gave up the ghost. Went with plextor for reputation. I hear they farm it out now. Well built and stable. A little bit picky on blank CDs but loves pro quality laqured Japanese blanks. I guess since CD is sadly a dying format not too much effort is put into the technology any more. I am happy with this recorder and am looking for another one maybe even a better one if I can find one that beats this plextor. Will record at 8X speed for audio and 4X for DVD. Nice

Plextor Still Dominates Optical Drives for PCs
My ASUS DVD Burner optical drive died on my PC (vintage 2016). I decided to replace the ASUS for this Plextor model ... and I am very happy!PROS:1. Plextor has made reliable, high-quality optical drives since 2001 or so. A Plextor has never let me down.2. This Plextor model is fast and reliable.3. Installation was a breeze. Windows 7 & Windows 10 recognized the Plextor immediately.4. The Plextor is not fussy about the brand of blank DVDs used. But I use Memorex DVD blanks, which work great.CONS: NONE ... except the Plextor is expensive for a DVD optical drive ... but awesome quality costs more. The Verdict: If you need a rock-solid, fast DVD optical drive for your PC, this Plextor is the superior choice.

MALWARE INFECTED SOFTWARE verified
This is "another" Plextor optical drive that has a malware infected software driver on installation disc.No joke.Specifically, ImageBurn (SetupImgBurn_2.5.8.0.exe) is infected with W32/OpenCandy.Do not install.Download ImageBurn instead. The optical drive itself is a 5 star drive.I used a Plextor drive daily, as in every day, for three years straight to backup and recover OS9 systems and files.(roughly 3000 discs)That's right... this drive works with Macintosh computers without any driver installations. That one drive is still functioning very well.

Awesome!
well only had it for a couple days but i can already hear a difference in the quality of cd playback vs the asus DRW-24B1ST the plextor blows it away for cd playback and its dead quiet while doing it. never heard an optical drive this quiet in my life! like dead silent. well i haven't burned w/ it yet. waiting on some falcon cd-r's but i'm sure it will do an excellent job at that too. Saving wear and tear on my blu-ray drive till i get a 3D monitor, was just using it for cd's anyway. mine came with plextools and some other burning software on a disc and a couple blanks. so far so good!!!

Dose a good job.
Like the writer and have no problems. The software, on the other hand, really stinks. Had problems downloading. Gave up and removed the software.
